A facial treatment consists of a thorough cleansing of the skin. Depending on which facial you choose, most of our facials start with a light dermablading process to smoothen the skin, such as removing the layer of facial hair that often forms on the surface. The facial will clean the skin, followed by an exfoliation and steaming process, and will end with the application of a facial mask, a toner, and moisturizer. All patients will leave their appointment with SPF so the skin is protected from the sun. During the facial treatment, our aesthetician will often perform a gentle shoulder and chest massage while our patients relax during treatment. The average facial takes about 30 – 45 minutes to complete.

Many of our dermatology patients experience some skin sensitivity after the facial process, and report that it feels like a mild sunburn on the face. While many are able to return to their normal activities and reapply makeup immediately afterwards, there are some patients that will experience some mild redness for a short period, which usually lasts 2 – 24 hours, and can be soothed with cold compressions.

You can expect sunspots to darken after the facial treatment, then naturally shed from the skin within 1 – 2 weeks. Skin tone will be more even and smooth, with less pronounced redness within a week after treatment. Blood vessels may disappear after treatment or they may appear darker and then fully or partially fade within 10 – 14 days.

Once you have a facial, we recommend getting on a routine treatment schedule so that your face remains clean and clear year-round. In addition, we can offer you a product line to use at home to compliment your treatment. These professional grade products will enhance your skin in between facials at our dermatology office. We can give recommendations on which products to use per skin type, and also suggest the right type of makeup to match your skin tone and avoid breakouts.
