Snyder Dermatology is one of only a few practices in Austin offering the Avava laser, a next-generation treatment for skin laxity, texture, and tone that delivers meaningful improvement without surgery or extended downtime.

What Is the Avava Laser?

Avava is an FDA-cleared, non-ablative fractional laser that uses proprietary Focal Point Technology to deliver precise energy beneath the skin’s surface, reaching depths of up to 1.8 millimeters to improve both superficial texture and deeper skin laxity. Unlike many laser devices, Avava is safe for all Fitzpatrick skin types, I through VI, making it an option for a wider range of patients than traditional resurfacing lasers. Snyder Dermatology introduced Avava to our Austin locations in 2025; you can read more in our original announcement.

Who Is a Candidate for the Avava Laser?

Avava is well suited for patients who want firmer, smoother, more even-toned skin without the recovery time associated with surgery or more aggressive resurfacing. Common concerns treated with Avava include:

  • Skin laxity on the face, neck, arms, hands, or stomach
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Acne scarring
  • Loose or lax skin following significant weight loss or GLP-1 medication use

Because Avava is safe across all skin tones, it is also a strong option for patients who have had limited laser treatment options available to them in the past. It has also become one of our most effective options for tissue tightening in patients experiencing skin laxity after significant weight loss, including those using GLP-1 medications.

Benefits of the Avava Laser

  • A non-surgical alternative to facelift surgery for skin laxity concerns
  • Safe for all skin tones (Fitzpatrick I through VI)
  • Minimal downtime compared to CO2 and other ablative lasers
  • Treats the face, neck, arms, hands, and stomach
  • Performed in-office by a licensed esthetician

Avava Laser Treatment

An Avava treatment plan typically consists of three sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart, allowing results to build gradually. Full-face and full-face-plus-neck packages are available. Each session is performed in-office by a licensed esthetician, and most patients describe the sensation as mild warmth or pressure.

MEET OUR DOCTORS

Snyder Dermatology is the premier practice for medical and cosmetic dermatology in Austin, TX. Centrally located, our dynamic team of board certified dermatologists focus on providing patients with the most advanced medical care and treatment options. Our practice is distinguished by our compassion, our desire to fully understand our patients’ needs, and our commitment to being good stewards in the communities where we live and work.

Recovery and Results

Most patients experience 24 to 48 hours of redness or mild swelling following treatment, considerably less than what is typical after CO2 or other ablative resurfacing. Initial improvement is usually visible within approximately two weeks, with peak results appearing around six weeks as the skin continues to remodel. As with any skin rejuvenation treatment, individual results vary based on skin type and treatment goals.

Because Avava works beneath the skin’s surface, supporting the skin barrier during recovery is an important part of the treatment process. Our Pre & Post-Procedure Skincare Guide provides general guidance for laser treatments, including sun protection and which active ingredients to avoid while healing, and your provider will offer instructions specific to your treatment.

Patients weighing Avava against other options in our laser and device lineup, such as Fraxel or Ultherapy, can discuss the differences with their provider during a consultation to determine the best fit for their goals.
